Solving Equations

At times in Maths (and life) you'll come across equations where you don't know some of the numbers involved for example in:

                                        2(4x - 2)  = 18

How to find x?  While some of you might be able to 'work it out in your head' that won't always work (trust me it gets harder!).  We need a process to help us untangle all the numbers from the x and leave us with a balanced equation of x =.......
